Strengthening cybersecurity in medical devices: NEMECYS workshop and meetup in Trondheim on November 28

On November 28, 2024, SINTEF Digital will host two events for the health domain in Trondheim as part of the NEMECYS Horizon Europe Project. These events aim to equip healthcare professionals, medical device developers, and industry stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to address pressing cybersecurity challenges in the sector. Additionally, the event underscores the NEMECYS Horizon Europe Project’s mission to bridge existing gaps in medical device cybersecurity.

The first event, a workshop scheduled from 11:00 to 15:00, will provide participants with a detailed look at the NEMECYS project’s work. Through case studies, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the real-world implications of cybersecurity in medical devices. The workshop will also introduce three innovative tools developed by the project, addressing threat modeling, cybersecurity exercises, and comprehensive guidance on regulatory frameworks and standards. In addition to these insights, the workshop offers a platform for professionals to share experiences, exchange ideas, and connect with representatives from healthcare organizations and medical device manufacturers.

Later in the day, starting at 16:00, a meetup will delve into critical topics at the intersection of privacy, patient safety, and cybersecurity. Featuring leading experts, this session will highlight key findings from the NEMECYS project and related research. Gencer Erdogan, Senior Research Scientist, SINTEF will discuss practical risk-based strategies for improving security in medical devices, while Eivind Sandholtbråten Hagen, ICT-coordinator, St. Olavs Hospital will share insights from security testing conducted within a hospital setting. The meetup will also include a panel discussion with Synnøve Kleive, Strategic UX advisor / Design thinker, Bouvet and Geir Erlend Johansen, Head of the secretariat for Normen, Norwegian Directorate of Health, focusing on the findings from the report “Privacy management in conflict with patient safety”.
